✦ Synopsis
The Zeeman effect in the phosphorescence photoexcitation spectrum of benzene is used to investigate the assignment of the intense vibronic doublet occuqing in the 'Blue ' Alg absorption spectrum. The results p:ovide further eiidence for a dynamic pseudo-Jahn-Tcllcr vibronic coupling between the 3BlU and 'Elu electronic states.

A system of "hot" bandsoriginating from the II= 1 level of the/& vibrational mode in the zpolarized 2A,,(z2)+2B,,(~Z-y\*) transition of the planar CuCB-ion of (methadonium),CuCl, is described. Their form suggests that the complex has a pseudo-.\_ tetrahedral geometry in the excited electronic state.
