✦ Synopsis
Thermobacterium acidophilum R 26 OI~LA J~s~x cannot synthesize desoxyribosides, and has therefore been utilized by HOFF-Jm~G~SnX (1951) for a very sensitive method for determination of DNA. The present authors have developed a chemically defined medium for this organism (L~vTRITe and Roos, 1957), and during this work a closer study of the nutritional requirements was undertaken. The results concerning the vitamins will be presented in the present paper.
Material and methods
As far as me~h~dologieal details are concerned, th~ reader may refer to ~he previous publication (L~wRup and Roos, i957). The DBM mentioned in the present work refers to the chemically defined medium described in that paper.
The vitamins employed were all commercial preparations. Concentrations of vitamins are given as pg. per ml. DB~I. The thymidine concentration was in all experiments 0,363/~g. per ml. of the final medium (BM).
