Abstract
Procaine penicillin (procaine benzylpenicillin) given from the first day after hatching to slaughter led to a total increase in output of 11 and 15.4% respectively in two trials on different strains of table cockerels. The improved yield was partly due to improved growth and partly to a reduction in cull rate. Penicillin improved foodβconversion up to seven weeks of age, but this advantage was no longer evident at 15 weeks.
