โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

The use of fluorescent cyanine dyes to estimate membrane potential in cell suspensions has been considered. Several problems related to the application of the dyes have been reviewed. These problems include: (1) alteration of the membrane potential (E~m~) and factors involved in establishing E~m~ by the dyes themselves, (2) the effect of altered energy metabolism on the fluorescent response of the dyes and on E~m~, and (3) calibration of dye fluorescence. Recent reports that advocate the use of the fluorescent dyes are misleading.

## Abstract Under controlled conditions, fluorescent cyanine dyes can be used to mesure membrane potentials of cell suspensions. Similar changes in membrane potential can be followed both with fluorescent dyes and electrophysiological probes in response to changes in the ion composition of the medi

This paper describes the development of a measure of readiness for first grade. The Readiness Inventory (RI), consists of six items, uses a 4-point rating scale, and has an alpha of 0.86. The RI was completed on 139 first-grade children and analyzed using a polytomous rating scale model of Item Resp

The current-voltage curve for ion channels is perhaps the best known characteristic of these channels. One of the first properties measured, it is accurately known for a variety of channels. The curve is usually described by a single thermal activation energy, which is assumed to show the number of
