Type-material of the families Bibionidae and Pleciidae in the Zoological Museum (Museum fur Naturkunde), Berlin, is reviewed. 27 species of Ribionidae and 11 species of Pleciidae are discussed, described mainly by Loew, Duda and Becker. but also by Haenni, Hardy, Meigen, Pecina, Strobl, Villeneuve, and Wiedemann. 13 lectotypes are designated.
