## Abstract The mechanism of substitution water exchange reactions in square planar transβPt[(NH~3~)~2~T(H~2~O)]^n+^ complexes is studied (Tο£ΎH~2~O, NH~3~, OH^β^, F^β^, Cl^β^, Br^β^, H~2~S, CH~3~S^β^, SCN^β^, CN^β^, PH~3~, CO, CH~3~^β^, H^β^, C~2~H~4~). The trans effect is explained in terms of Οβdo
H-and 13C-NMR. data are reported for the complexes [Pt (1)Ll and [Pt (2)Ll; hexyl), DMSO, pyridine, secondary amine. The molecular structures of [Pt(2) (NHEt,)] (I) and [Pt (2)(PPh3)] (11) have been determined by X-ray analysis.
