✦ Synopsis

Terminal velocities and frequencies of oscillation are presented for single drops of an organic liquid falling through water. It is shown that no previous correlations of either the velocity or the frequency of oscillation are entirely satisfactory when the system is specially purified and when the drops are oscillating. Empirical correlations are presented for these variables.

The transition from a non oscillating drop to an oscillating drop was found to occur at a break in the plot of a modified Weber number, @dU,2DE/u), against a modified Ohnesorge number, (pa/ @duD,#*.

An empirical correlation is presented for the transition Ohnesorge number.

The dynamic behavior of a bubble or drop oscillating at the tip of a capillary immersed in a surfactant solution is considered. The pressure variation in the cell and the nonstationary flow in the capillary are taken into account. The amplitude- and phase-frequency characteristics of the system are

The application is presented of the correlations derived in a preceeding paper on drop formation at non-wetted capillaries in liquid-liquid systems. The correlations predict the volume within an accuracy of cu. 15 per cent for all flow rates below the jetting velocity. A criterion for the jetting
