This study could have been compressed into a monograph, and perhaps into a long article. However, the opportunity to enlarge and expand the basic data into a comprehensive survey, including aspects of method and analysis that might otherwise have been lost, has been fully exploited by the authors. The result, though overpriced in American dollars, is a meaty volume that will be of interest and value to anyone concerned with biological variation and its relation to physical competition.
