The carbamate 8 was reacted with appropriate ฮฒ-keto esters in a Pechmann reaction giving the coumarin derivatives 9-11 bearing 4-nitrobenzylcarbamoyl triggers. These compounds were assessed as potential indicators of nitroreductase activity.
