โœฆ Synopsis

The sudden approximation is used to calculate transition probabilities for vibrationally inelastic scattering in the c.m. energy range of 0.1'7-17 eV. The system studied was He+Hz using the potential oE Krauss and RIies. Effects of concurrent rotationally inelastic scattering and the orientation dependence of the potential were included in the calculations. In general, colinear collisions were found to give the largest energy transfer, although there were large transition probabilities for other orientations of the

The quantum-mechanical impulse approximation is applied to vibrational excitation of a diatomic molecute by collinear collision with a third atom. Our calculations are compared with other theoretical results (exact quantummechanical, semi-classical, classical) and with experimental data from O:-He c
