A 3D elastic-plastic FEM model for prediction of planar fatigue crack growth is presented in this paper. The model is based on the concept of local low-cycle fatigue of a small material volume in front of the high cycle crack. A local crack front advance is modelled by the successive release of fini

β¦ Synopsis
The fatigue FEM analysis normally cannot inherit the stamping effects due to heterogeneous codes used. This paper proposes a database modification approach to integrate the stamping effects into the fatigue FEM prediction for an engine bracket in an accelerated rig test. Equal thickness shell, unequal thickness shell (including the stamping effects) and solid element are used to simulate the tubular bracket in the fatigue analysis. Results obtained from the comparison between the numerical predictions and the experiment show that considering the stamping effects would increase the predicted fatigue life greatly and also improve the accuracy of the fatigue FEM prediction.

In the present study attempts are made to give an expression of the fatigue crack initiation life of notched elements with the consideration of overloading effects. This expression may be used to predict the fatigue crack initiation life of notched element under variable amplitude loading. Experimen
