โฆ Synopsis
The structures of Sr 5 U 3 O 14 and BaSr 4 U 3 O 14 have been studied by X-ray powder di4raction and neutron powder di4raction. Both compounds could be indexed on a pseudo-tetragonal, chiolitetype structure. Sr 5 U 3 O 14 was shown to be orthorhombic and to have space group Pbca with aโซ)7(6142.11ุโฌ A > , bโซ)7(2752.11ุโฌ A > , cโซ)4(1970.11ุโฌ A > , and Zโซ.4ุโฌ BaSr 4 U 3 O 14 was shown to be orthorhombic and to have space group Cmca with aโซ)7(7463.11ุโฌ A > , bโซ)7(0773.11ุโฌ A > , cโซ)5(3020.11ุโฌ A > , and Zโซ.4ุโฌ The thermodynamic properties of Sr 5 U 3 O 14 at 298.15 K have been determined, and its thermal stability with respect to the neighboring strontium uranate phases are discussed.
