✦ Synopsis
The U(IV) 6uorides (C 5 H 14 N 2 ) 2 U 2 F 12 ' 5H 2 O (AU1-2) and (NH 4 ) 7 U 6 F 31 have been prepared from the reaction of UO 3 with HF and homopiperazine (C 5 H 12 N 2 ) at 1803C in aqueous media. AU1-2 contains dodecahedral UF 8 units that share two edges to form 1 [UF 4 F 4/2 ] one-dimensional chains. The 6uoride ligands form hydrogen bonds with the diprotonated homopiperazinium cations to yield channels running down the a axis that contain occluded water molecules. (NH 4 ) 7 U 6 F 31 is isostructural with Na 7 Zr 6 F 31 , forming a three-dimensional network consisting of edge-and corner-sharing UF 8 square antiprisms that create cubooctahedral clusters and small intersecting channels. A disordered 6uoride anion resides in the cubooctahedral cavities and the ammonium cations partially 5ll the channels. AU1-2 and (NH 4 ) 7 U 6 F 31 display similar magnetic behavior with eff (300 K) ؍ 3.05 and 3.03 B /U(IV) and
