✦ Synopsis
A list of some poorly known, obscure or neglected type specimens of colubrids, elapids, and viperids from the ZMB collection is provided together with some specimens of questionable type status. The taxonomic status of the African species Mehelya baumanni, M. riggenbachi and M. rostralis, described by Sternfeld in 1908 and 1910, is discussed in more detail. The unique type specimen of Simocephalus baumanni is identified as Mehelya guirali, S. riggenbachi as M. crossi and S. rostralis as M. stenophthalmus. It is also confirmed that Boodon infernalis (Gu ¨nther, 1858) is a junior synonym of Lamprophis inornatus (Dume ´ril, Bibron & Dume ´ril, 1854) contributing to the problematic species discrimination in this specious and widespread African genus.
