✦ Synopsis

The resonance stabilization energies, Es, of polyenyl radicals can be estimated by the equation E,(N) = -13.2+ [ 3.95 -15.8 (2) -2/n] kcal mol -I, where N is the number of C, C-x bonds in the polyenyl radicals. This correlation has been extended for predicting the weakest H-C, C-C and C-OH bond dissociation energies in vitamin A and similar compounds.
