✦ Synopsis


The slow combustion of ketene has been investigated over an extended range el" temperatures. The reaction is autocatalytic and very fast, not being much affected by changes in temperature and the addition of inert gas. The main products arc carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, ~vatcr and form:lldehyde together ~ ~th traces of hydrogen. methane and acetic acid. A free radical chain mech;mism involving reactions of OH and He, radic:ds with ketene and branching due to formaldehyde oxidation is proposed.
