✦ Synopsis

In this paper we will review and discuss the ISO 14001 and EMAS standards. After reviewing the political background of the standards we will mention some differences and similarities between the two standards. The central question we want to pose in this paper concerns the possible significance of the standards as an impetus for improvement of environmental performance of companies and other organizations. 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd and ERP Environment.
