In the framework of the European Union programme for sequencing the genome of Saccharomyces cerevisiue we have determined the nucleotide sequence of a region of 24 152 bp located on the left arm of chromosome XIV between the BNIl and the POL2 genes. The sequence was obtained by directed sequence ana

β¦ Synopsis
We report the DNA sequence of a 17 933 bp fragment from the left arm of chromosome XIV of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Analysis of the sequence reveals the presence of ten open reading frames (ORFs) larger than 100 codons. Four of these were previously identified as genes R H 0 2 , T0P2, M K T l and ENDS. Additionally, the NH, end coding region of P M S l is found in the 3' end of the sequence. No significant homology to any known protein has been found for the other five ORFS.' The nucleotide sequence has been deposited at EMBL, with Accession Number X89016.

The nucleotide sequence of 22 803 bp on the left arm of chromosome VII was determined by polymerase chain reaction-based approaches to compensate for the unstable character of cosmid clones from this region of the chromosome. The coding density of the sequence is particularly high (more than 83%). T
The DNA sequence of 23 427 bp from the right arm of chromosome V11 of Srrc,clirrrort/~ws cereiiyicie is reported. The sequence contains 18 open reading frames (ORFs). Four of these are identical to genes already known. (35970 corresponds to the CLBh gene. (36169 is identical to the SPT6 gene. (36178

The nucleotide sequence of a fragment of 21 308 bp from the left arm of S~icclruroiqws cerevisiae chromosome XIV has been detemiined. Analysis of the sequence revealed 13 open reading frames (ORFs) longer than 300 bp, four of which correspond to the previously identified genes LEU4, MET4, POLl and R
The nucleotide sequence of 35 400 bp at approximately 10 kb from the right telomere of chromosome VII was determined. The segment contains the MAL1 locus, one of the five unlinked loci sufficient for maltose utilization. Until now, each of these loci was considered to contain three genes (for regula
