## Abstract Last couple of years witnessed the development of various new Ce^3+^ doped halide scintillators (LaCl~3~, LaBr~3~, LuI~3~, Cs~2~LiYCl~6~, Cs~2~LiYBr~6~) that possess excellent gamma ray or thermal neutron detection properties. The scintillation pulse in LaBr~3~:Ce^3+^ is 20 times faster
