✦ Synopsis


We demonstrate that the adsorption of molecular nitrogen on modified Ru(OO1) is, in contrast to CO adsorption, largely governed by its acharge donation to the metal, which can be promoted by coadsorbed oxygen. Preadsorbed potassium inhibits nitrogen adsorption for 6K > 0.08, thus enabling us to determine a minimum distance of 4.25 A for the repulsive K-N2 interaction.
