✦ Synopsis
A new mechanism is reported for the adsorption of alkylamines on YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7 superconductor samples. The results indicate that even carefully prepared superconductor samples are initially coated with corrosion products, which are nearly completely removed after exposure to the amine reagent. The amines are found to adsorb in a persistent manner on the high-T C surface. Once the amines are anchored to the cuprate surface, the etching process ceases and the adsorbate layer is found to be anchored atop a highly conductive exterior region. The described self-termination and surface passivation methods may be useful for the processing/packaging of high-T C
