✦ Synopsis
The removal and recuperation of nickel and other heavy metals, from the ammoniacal-carbonate residual liquors of the Cuban Nickel Industry, by ion exchange have been studied using natural clinoptilolite from Caimanes deposit (Moa, Cuba). The present study was conducted to analyze the in¯uence of carbonate anions during the NH 4 and Ni 2 exchange in clinoptilolite. The main ion-exchange kinetic parameters were determined on the basis of the Barrer theory and other criteria. The analysis of the results obtained by kinetic study, infrared spectrometry and X-ray diraction led to the conclusion that, in addition to ion exchange, the Ni precipitates in the form of low soluble phases.
