The relative heats of formation for a series of solid-solution alloys in the gold-palladium system have been measured in a liquid-metal solution calorimeter. The thermodynamic quantity is found to be exothermio over the entire composition range with a maximum value at approximately 40 at. oh palladium, a behavior previously found in the silver-palladium and copper-palladium systems. The heats of formation for all three systems are compared with other properties and it is concluded that a contribution results from filling the d band of palladium with electrons of the noble metals.

Ein solches Verhalten wurde friiher schon in den Systemen Silber-Palladium und Kupfer-Palladium gefunden. Die BildungswQmen dieser drei Systeme werden mit anderen Eigenschaften verglichen. Es ergibt sich, da5 ein Beitrag herriihrt vom Auffiillen des d-Bandes von Palladium mit Elektronen der Edelmetalle.
