โœฆ Synopsis

1 ST K0I)UCTTO.S

A distinct circumolivary fascicle lius bccri recognized a.s a Comnion varitit ion of tltc pyramidal system by several invcstigators (Barnes, ' 01 ; Smit.h, '04, '07 ; T-Tajos, '14). Tt is formed by a group of fibers which beconie separated from tlic pyramid, ewiiig 1at.crad to course below tlic honio-lateral olive, then turn rostrad and appear to eiid iu the rest.iform body. Somciimcs sniall circumolivary striae take the place of a distiiict 1)iuldlc. E'ouiidcd upon inconclusive evidence, it has been suggested that these fibers krminate in the nucleus tlmbiguus, hypoglousal nucleus (Barnes, '01 ; Smith, '04, '07)' and cerebellum (IIujos, '14). The pontobnlbar body (Itssick, '07)' a nucIear mass which is continuous with the pontine nuclei in the fetus (Btreeter, '06), has been represented diagrammatically RR the point of tarminat.ion of t.he circumolivary fascicle (Smith, '2H), but no eridciic.e supporting this conclusioii has been given.
