β¦ Synopsis
Recent publications concerned with several different resonance-stabilized sulfonlum ylldes have covered their preparation and spectral properties and synthetic utility but relatively few of thlooarbonyl-stablllzed ylldes have been reported'). We wish to report here a synthesis of some dlthloformate-stabilized sulfonlum glides and their facile Intramolecular nucleophlllc substitution and also a new one-step synthesis of a relatively unfamiliar class of compounds, 1,3-dlthletanes. Treatment, at room temperature, of aqueous solution of dlmethylbenzylsulfonlum chloride with carbon dlsulflde and powdered sodium hydroxide gave rise to exothermlc reaction which afforded new yllde Ia which crystallized from dlmethylformamlde-ethanol as a colourless mlcrocryetals, mp. 121-122"C, in 82%

A new type of compound (2) was obtained from the reaction of a metsllated thiourea with carbon disulfide followed by methylatlon. A reaction mechanism involving a rearrangement of dimethylamino group was suggested.
Ye wish to report the hitherto unknown reaotlcm of benzyne with carbon dleulilde to @~a thlQanlSOle, thloqgenol and dlnhenyl sulfide. Hetalllo sodlum and liquid amnontd were stirred for 1 hr and, Into the resultant dark-violet solution was added an appropriate amount of carbon dlsul?lde durlw 7 min
Transition metal-catalyzed decomposition of phenyliodonium and diphenylsulfonium ylides was investigated with regard to application in asymmetric carbenoid reactions. Phenyliodonium ylides react in the presence of Rh(II) catalysts with the same selectivity in inter-and intramolecular cyclopropanatio
