✦ Synopsis

procedure for studying the reaction between petroleum cokes and air under chemically controlled conditions is described. Following Walker et ui.[9], the weight loss curves were normaiized by the use of a reduced time T = tltlil. A tmique curve was not obtained for different cokes, as was the case with coal chars. The factors which determine the evolution of reaction rate with burn off are discussed and a simple procedure for the evaluation of activation energies is described. A comparison is made between several parameters that can be used to assess coke reactivity. The correlation of the reactivity with other properties of the cokes is studied and discussed.

The combustion behavior of spheres of a particular petroleum coke that has been widely used for the experimental measurement of combustion rates was modeled in the temperature range 1000-1800 K. In order to validate the model the literature was reviewed and the experimentally determined kinetic beha

The orientation dependence of the small angle scattering by pyrolytic graphite has been investigated. The intensity can be interpreted in terms of the scattering by voids whose shape is oblate ellipsoids of revolution with semi-major and semi-minor axes of a and b respectively. The scattering in the

## Co-carbonizations were carried out to study the possible utilization of petroleum cokes of different qualities in the production of metallurgical cokes. The use of blends of a high volatile coking coal with petroleum cokes (high, medium and low volatile content) was studied. It was found that w
