Time-resolved resonance Raman spectra of the first triplet state of biphenyl derivatives are reported in the range 300-1800 cm-'. Convincing assignments and satisfactory correlation with the ground-state assignments are proposed. The DZh planar quinoidal character of T, biphenyl is shown by various
