β¦ Synopsis
With the backdrop of Warsaw, the capital city of Poland, nestled in the center of the country on the banks of the River Vistula, the International Colour Association held its Midterm Meeting on Applications of Colorimetry in Industry and Design. The meeting was graciously hosted by the AIC member organization, the Polish Committee for Standards Measurement Quality Control, under the leadership of Jerzy Pietrzykowski. The first day of the meeting, June 22, 1999, was held at the NOT building, which is part of the Main Technical Organization located nearly in the heart of Warsaw. Jerzy, our AIC host, is the head of the Optical Radiation Laboratory at the Central Office of Measures (GUM). Eighty-eight participants attended the meeting from 22 countries.
The opening ceremony featured a violinist and pianist serenading the participants with peacefully beautiful classical music. This was a refreshing way to begin the conference. The room was flanked with the exquisitely designed poster featuring a statue of Frederic Chopin, the great pianist and composer, who grew up in Warsaw. The day featured four oral paper presentation sessions and a poster session at the end of the day.
