Abstract
Raman spectra of polycrystalline films of CFCl~3~ have been recorded at 77K. Chlorine isotope splittings have been observed for four of the six fundamentals in agreement with predictions. The degenerate Cο£ΏCl stretching band Ξ½~4~ shows evidence of both site and factor group splitting and possibly LO and TO components. To account for the observed splittings it is suggested that solid CFCl~3~ has a nonβcentrosymmetric orthorhombic crystal structure at 77K.
