β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Batch cultures of Agrobacterium tumefaciens were grown in a stirred reactor holding 400 litres of a minimal medium containing 20 g of sucrose litre^β1^. 3βKetosucrose accumulated in the medium during the growth phase to reach a maximum concentration of 6β8 g litre^1^ at the point of sucrose exhaustion, 18β20 h after inoculation. The 3βketosucrose produced was free from other sugars. The yield of 3βketosucrose was influenced by initial aeration rate and inoculum size.
