While investigating the destruction of the cyanobacterial hepatotoxin microcystin-LR in the presence of phycocyanin pigment via semiconductor photocatalysis, it became apparent that the pigment was catalysing the toxin decomposition. The mechanism of this process in terms of phycocyanin acting as a
