By employing pulsed field gel electrophoresis we find that slow growing strains of Kluyveromyces lactis have only 43%-55% of the wild-type level of ribosomal DNA (rDNA) repeats. When subjected to prolonged vegetative growth these strains can increase both the number of rDNA repeats and their growth
