β¦ Synopsis
In contrast with the extensive studies of the metabolism of spermatozoa of mammals and invertebrates, similar studies on spermatozoa of lower vertebrates appear to be rare or lacking (see Bishop, '61, '62). The present investigation of fish spermatozoa was undertaken as part of a comparative study of the metabolism of the germ cells of various phyla and species. By means of a sensitive technique employing Cl4-1abeled substrates, previously used in a study of the oxidative metabolism of bovine and human spermatozoa (Terner, '59, '60), quantitative measurements of rates of oxidation of external substrates were possible despite the relatively high endogenous respiration of fish spermatozoa.

## Abstract Rabbit sperm pyruvate kinase remains bound to the cell structure of hypotonically treated mature rabbit epididymal spermatozoa (HTRES). It displays kinetic behavior very similar to that of rabbit muscle pyruvate kinase with regard to K~M~ values for substrates, activation by monovalent
Glucose-induced cyclic (3H) AMP accumulation, insulin secretory responses and the metabolism of glucose were studied in pancreatic islets from Acomys cahirinus. 27.7 mmol/l of glucose stimulated neither islet cyclic (3H) AMP accumulation nor insulin release during the first 5 min of incubation. We report studies of the effect of ischemia on the metabolic activity of the intact perfused lung and its restoration after a period of reperfusion. Two groups of rat lungs were studied using hyperpolarized 1β^13^C pyruvate to compare the rate of lactate labeling differing only in the temporal order
