โœฆ Synopsis

The microwave spectrum of acetonitrile N-oxide shows that the molecule is a symmetric top. The spectrum of the common isotopic species, both 1% species. the 15N and 180 species have been assigned leading to the r, geometry of all heavy atoms. The nitrogen quadrupofe coupling cehstant is found to be 490 IcHz.

Fmtr, the Stark effect the dipole moment is 1.50 x 10 *z3 Cm (4.49 II). The significance of the observed NO bond length and other properties is dicuased in r&&ion to the electranit: structure of this bond.

The microwave spectrum of m-tolunitrile (3-methylbenzonitrile, m-C 6 H 4 CH 3 CN) has been investigated in the frequency range from 1 to 4 and 8 to 26.5 GHz. The spectra in the two lowest states of internal methyl rotation (m ฯญ 0, ฯฎ1) were recorded by means of pulsed molecular beam Fourier transform

The results of electrostatic calculations of the lattice energies of crystals formed from linear hydrogen-bonded chains of HCN molecules are reported. Two types of crystal structures are considered: one in which the chains are aligned with their dipole moments parallel, and the second where alternat
