✦ Synopsis
The melt-processed YBCO containing rare-earth 211-particles (Yb2BaCuOs) were synthesized with or without Pt-doping. A mixing of Yb and Y in the 211-phase occurs immediately after the incongruent melting of the 123-phase and proceeds during solidification. However, Pt-doping is found to suppress substantially the coalescence of the 211-particles and a mutual mixing of Y and Yb during the slow solidification process.
