โฆ Synopsis
The Meriadzek Terrace forms part of the continental margin in the Bay of Biscay at a depth between that of the Continental shelf and the abyssal plain. Reflection profiles show that it is bounded on either side by basement ridges with a sediment infill between the ridges. It was probably formed by downfaulting of the continental shelf, possibly connected with the opening of the Bay of Biscay.
2. The Reflection Profiles
Profiles I, 1I, III, IV, VIII and X were run by the Vening Meinesz Laboratory as part of the Kroonvlag-project, using a Lamont-type airgun and filtered at 25-80 Hz.
Profile V was run by Department of Geodesy and Geophysics, Cambridge/National Institute of Oceanography on R.R.S. Discovettv in 1968, using a Lamont-type 30 in 3 airgun and filtered at 50-150 Hz.
