โœฆ Synopsis

The ways in which health care is paid for by third-party payers is beginning to change dramatically. Hospitals receiving Medicare funds now have to function under a new pricing system that allocates specific amounts of money for specific diagnosis related groups (DRGs). It is likely that the major health-insurance carriers will follow suit. The impact of these changes on the delivery of care and on patient education as an integral part of quality health care is reviewed in the four papers that follow. Readers are invited to respond to the issues raised.
