A study of the hydrogen-evolution reaction on gold eIectrodes is reported. Two mechanisms are shown to operate between O-0 and O-3 V(he). At low cds d log i/dq = 23RT/2F, x 2\*3RT/I;at higher cds. it changes to 2 This indicates a transition from a Tafel to a Heyrovsky rate-determining step. In 1.0 M
