โฆ Synopsis
Rate constants for the vibrational deactivation of 12C1b by Hz, Dz and 'He have been determined by laser-induced fluorescence in the gas phase at low temperatures. The rate constants for 12C160( u= 1 )-H2 and '*C?O( u= 1 )-D2 have been measured down to 35 K and those for '*C%(o= 1 )-'He have been measured to 40 R. This extension of our previous data has been made possible by the adoption of a frequency-doubled CO, laser. The rate constants for %'b( II= 1 )-Hz and '2C'60( I= 1 )-D2 show a minimum at 50 R, whereas that for 1zC160( v= 1 )-'He steadily decreases with lowering temperature throughout the range studied here.

Rate constants for the vibrational deactivation of 12C'60( u= 1) by Hz and D1 have been measured in liquid D2 solution over the temperature range 25 to 35 K. The '2C'60 was vibrationally excited using a frequency-doubled CO2 laser and the resulting infrared fluorescence was analysed to yield the rat
