✦ Synopsis
The luminescent properties of eulytite structural ternary orthophosphates Ba 3 Gd(PO 4 ) 3 :Ln 3+ (Ln 3+ = Ce 3+ , Pr 3+ , Tb 3+ ), Ba 3 Ce(PO 4 ) 3 , Ba 3 Gd(PO 4 ) 3 and Ba 3 Tb(PO 4 ) 3 under UV and synchrotron radiation VUV excitation were investigated. The host related absorption and the f-d transitions of Ln 3+ ions in the host lattices are identified. An empirical expression on the lowest f-d transition energies and n values for 4f n -series Ln 3+ ions in the host lattices is suggested.
