The effect of 2, 4-dinitrophenol, DNP, on monolayers of egg lecithin, hydrogenated egg lecithin, dipalmitoyl lecithin and mitochondrial lipids has been examined. Both the undissociated and dissociated forms of DNP bind to the phospholipid polar groups. Binding of the acid form leads to a decrease in
