The photophysics of the excited states of safranine T and its reactions with aliphatic amines were studied in aqueous solution. The fluorescence lifetime of the singlet state was found to be 1.3 ns at 20 Β°C in water, and increases in non-hydroxylic solvents. This state is quenched by trialkylamines

Interactions of aliphatic amines with chloranil and 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyano-p-benoquinone have been examined by employing a conductometric technique. The stoichiometries, cry and arvalues of the complexes are reported. The (or values reflect electron affinity of acceptors with a fixed electron dono
## Dedicated to Prof. Andre¬ M. Braun on occasion of his 60th birthday The reaction of the ground and excited states of lumichrome ( 7,8-dimethylalloxazine 7,8-dimethylbenzo[g]pteridine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione) with aliphatic and aromatic amines was investigated in MeOH. In the presence of aliphatic amin
Phenyl chlorothionoformate reacts rapidly with aliphatic amines at 20Β°C to give a thiourethane and an alkyl chloride. The urethanes are readily converted to the secondary amine salt by reaction with dimethyl sulfate, followed by hydrolysis with water. Rates of reaction, and alkyl group cleavage sele
