✦ Synopsis

A model of stochastic gain ¨ariation is built in a dark soliton-distributed amplification transmission system; the influence of stochastic gain ¨ariation on the system is studied. The results show that the combined role of stochastic gain ¨ariation and amplifier spontaneous emission noise increases the time jitter at arri¨al, degrades the bit-error rate, and reduces the capacity and the propagation distance of the transmission system. A nonlinear gain is proposed to effecti¨ely suppress the influence.

## Abstract The influence of randomly varying birefringence on dark soliton transmission is investigated by numerical simulation. The results show that randomly varying birefringence leads to a soliton frequency shift, causes radiation waves, and disrupts the stability of dark soliton transmission.
