✦ Synopsis
The inhibiting effect of a series of tetraalkylammonium cations [tetrapropyl-(TPA), tributyl-methyL(TBMA), tributylethyl(TBEA), tributylpropyl-(TBPA) and tetrabutylamrnonium-(TBA)] on the electrode process Eu3+/Eu z-C has been studied at the mercury electrode surface saturated by lhe organic cation. The inhibiting properties are proportional to the size of the adsorbed cation. A similar mechanism to that described in the case of neutral organic molecules seems to go on, ie a substitution activated complexadsorbate, but AG& difference in going from one cation to the following in the series are not totally constant. The separation from this constant value indicates the existence of lateral interactions not so important to classify as specific coulombic interactions.
