โฆ Synopsis
The impact of precise measurements of a(e+e ---+ hadrons) in the center-of-mass range between 3 and 12 GeV on the determination of parameters of the Standard Model is discussed. In particular we discuss the determination of the charm and bottom quark masses and the possible improvements on the extraction of the strong coupling constant a~. Furthermore, the impact on the evaluation of the hadronic contributions to the electromagnetic coupling ce(Mz 2) is considered.
