Observations are reported of an Ha filament clearly visible in the image of the chromosphere at the limb as well as in the Hc~ spectrum of the same part of the chromosphere. Observations of this kind may give valuable information about the absorption mechanism at work in filaments.

A series of Ha-spectrograms obtained with the 21 in. Lyot coronagraph has been examined. Measurements of relative distances between spicules (nearly 50 features) embrace the time interval of about 21 min (38 pictures). It is found out that spicules oscillate along the limb with a characteristic time
A series of non-LTE radiative transfer solutions for Ha was computed using the integrodifferential equation technique of Athay and Skumanich (1967). A model hydrogen atom consisting of three bound levels and a continuttm was assumed. It was found that increasing the temperature of the chromosphere a
## Abstract This work deals with a CCD imaging study at optical and near‐infrared wavelength oftwo giant molecular clouds (plus a control field) in the southern region of the Large Magellanic Cloud, one ofwhich shows multiple signs of star formation, whereas the other does not. The observational da
Almost simultaneous height sequences of 69 spicules in the Ha line have been studied. The spectra are obtained at six heights during 6 s on the east side of the solar disk with the 53-cm Lyot coronagraph of Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory. Radial velocities V,, total intensities or equivalent
