The saccharification of cellulosic substrates by cellulase from Thermomonospora fusca, strain YX, was influenced by the presence of various substances. Cellobiose was strongly inhibitory, reducing the activity against swollen cellulose to 25% at 5% concentration. Glucose had much less effect, reduci

β¦ Synopsis
The hydrothermolysis of cellobiose in the range 180-249" has been studied. Kinetic analysis of the reaction showed that 60% of the cellobiose is converted into D-glucose, and 40% into other products. The rate (k,) of cellobiose disintegration is approximately eight times that (k2) of D-glucose. Thus, hydrothermolysis differs from acidic hydrolysis. Hydrothermolysis is not dependent on pH, at least in the range 3-7.
