β¦ Synopsis
A three state model is proposed for the explanation of sharp and large fluctuations of linewidths in electronic absorption spectra. The "channel 3" enigma of benzene is explained and on the basis of the ener,T dependence of the linebroadening in the tBZu state, vibrational structure is determined of a near-lying triplet state.
