## Abstract The rate constants, __k__~1~, of the reaction of CF~3~OC(O)H with OH radicals were measured by using a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic technique in an 11.5‐dm^3^ reaction chamber at 242–328 K. OH radicals were produced by UV photolysis of an O~3~–H~2~O–He mixture at an initial

✦ Synopsis
CF3 radicals were generated by the photolysis of perfluoroacetic anhydride. In the presence
of pentafluorobenzene, the CF3 radicals react according to the following mechanism:
It was found that the addition reaction (3) becomes reversible above ca. 453 K. The addition rate parameters have been revised and they satisfactorily agree with those reported previously.
At temperatures higher than 593 K, only true H-abstraction occurs. The rate constant k~ for reaction (5) is given by:
where e = 2.303 RT kJmol-' and k, is the rate constant for combination of CF3 radicals. The reactions of CF3 with benzene and pentafluorobenzene are compared.
Experimental
Pentaf luorobenzene was obtained from PCR Research Chemicals and was distilled under vacuum. It was stored in a glass bulb and degassed by repetitive freezing and thawing before each experiment.
