β¦ Synopsis
The seeded free jet LIF spstmscopy of the S, + S, transition of 9_(3'-me~ylphenyl)anlhracrnc. 9-(4'-methyIphenyl)Uuacenq g-(3'-fluoropbcnyl)auIhrawne, and g-(4'-fluorophenyl)anthracene has been studied. The lowest-frequency S, mode for all 01 these molauks is assigned to torsional motions about the bond thal joins the phenqi and amhracene ring+ Effective torsional potentials have been determined by filting Lhe rorsional vibrational spacings to a one-dirntional potential of the form v(e) = gz,V"(l --CDs n+) ' Alfred P.
